Last week I picked up the engine rebuild kit and new crank fro Skatey. He was able to do a very good price. $655 all up for the kit and crank.
Two other quotes I got were $800 and $1100.
The new crank has been installed in the block. There were no surprises and bearings all fitted easily. The back bearing cap needed a bit of tapping with the mallet to get it into position.
The felts in the side of the rear bearing cap are not finished. The manual said to soak in shellac and press in with a ‘suitable’ rod. I think shellac is a type of lacquer. Likewise the front sealing cap has some small cork bits to be soaked in shellac before installing.
